Our commitments to users, our values, and how we sustain open-source development.
These are unconditional commitments — not subject to funding pressures, investor demands, or acquisition offers.
Kanecta software will always be free. We will never charge a licence fee — not now, not later, not ever.
If we build plugins, apps, or additional features, those will be free as well. There is no paid add-on tier waiting in the wings.
We won't operate a model where a limited version is free and full functionality costs money. The fully featured version will always be the only version.
We won't sell Kanecta to another organisation who might change our terms. These commitments are ours to keep.
Nobody profits from owning Kanecta. We pay contributors at normal market wages where we can, but no one earns a return from being an owner, and there is no financial upside from selling.
We need to keep the lights on. We can do that through:
We don't accept large donations or large sponsorships. Staying small and independent keeps us free to make decisions in the interest of users, not funders.
Of all the ways we can sustain Kanecta, many small donations from users is our ideal. Here's why:
With consulting, hosting, and sponsorship, resources go into things other than the core product — and only a share of the income flows back to mainline development.
With small donations, 100% goes directly to maintaining and improving the software. No distractions. No competing priorities. Just better Kanecta.
